SUPERVISOR OF THE MARIE CURIE GLOBAL FELLOWHSIP – BRIDGE
Title: Building Resilient International Development through Green Employment in the EU and Asia (BRIDGE).
Funder: EU Commission, HORIZON-MSCA-2024-PF-01-01
Period: 2025-2028
Marie Curie Fellow: Riccardo Rinaldi.
Secondment Institution: University of Electronic Science and Technology of China
Co-Supervisors: Gianluca Capone; Daitian Li.
Abstract: BRIDGE aims to comprehensively examine the structure and evolution of ‘green jobs’—those essential for the green transition—along global value chains, in response to the growing international economic shifts toward sustainable development. The project’s core premise is that the ecological transition transcends national borders, representing a global process. As a result, labor dynamics related to this transition are deeply interconnected across regions worldwide. Asia, particularly China, plays a key role in these processes. The will explore these issues combining insights from labor economics to develop an analysis on a global level, adopting a multidisciplinary approach, encompassing empirical analysis and qualitative interviews to key actors to develop empirical informed computer simulation experiments.
LOCAL PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR OF THE HORIZON PROJECT – EGRUiEN
Title: Encouraging a Digital and Green Transition through Revitalised and Inclusive Union-Employer Negotiations (EGRUiEN).
Funder: EU Commission, HORIZON-CL2-2024-TRANSFORMATIONS-01-05
Period: 2025-2028
Partner Institutions: University of Jyväskylä (Finland); Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (Finland), European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research (Austria), Tallinn University (Estonia), University of Oslo (Norway), University of Wroclaw (Poland), University of Zaragoza (Spain), Cardiff University (Spain), Notus: Applied Social Research (Spain), Central European Labour Studies Institute (CELSI) (Slovakia).
Local Team: Simone Baglioni; Davide Bisi; Jacopo Canello; Marta Fana.
Abstract: EGRUiEN is a research project exploring how Europe’s transition to a greener and more digital economy can be equitable for all workers. Industries such as automotive, energy, on-demand transportation and care services undergo intense change, and many jobs are being redesigned – some of them may become less stable. EGRUiEN focuses on how to protect and include people in precarious or non-standard workplaces, and how to make sure workers in stable jobs don’t fall into precarity during this transition. The project explores how social dialogue between workers, employers and governments can help manage these changes. Learning from past examples and current practices, EGRUiEN aims to foster a just transition that leaves no one behind.
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR OF THE PRIN 2022 PROJECT – TRATTO
Title: TRAces of the Twin Transition on skills and Occupation: nature, quality and effects of digital and green jobs (TRATTO).
Funder: Italian Ministry of University and Research, PRIN Grant
Period: 2023-2025
Associated Investigators: Alberto Marzucchi; Ugo Rizzo.
Abstract: TRATTO advances knowledge by investigating for the first time the characteristics of digital and green jobs and their association with different metrics of environmental and economic performance through the exploitation of novel data sources. In particular, the project makes four contributions. First, it improves the definition and measurement of digital and green jobs in the EU and, more specifically, in Italy. Second, it investigates the quality of digital and green jobs. Third, it maps the supply of digital and green skills and it evaluates its local impact on industrial dynamics, economic and environmental performances. Fourth, it examines the effects of digital and green jobs on firm innovation and performance, considering the hiring of workers engaged in specific occupations as traces of the adoption of digital and green technologies that workers are expected to master in the workplace.
UNIT LEADER OF THE PRIN PNRR 2022 PROJECT – UGREENS
Title: University for the GREEN and Sustainable transition (UGREENS).
Funder: Italian Ministry of University and Research, PRIN PNRR Grant
Period: 2023-2025
Associated Investigators: Alberto Marzucchi; Ugo Rizzo; Daniele Rotolo (PI).
Abstract: The UGREENS project aims to advance knowledge of the extent to which universities contribute to building a climate-neutral society and economy through education and research. The project will focus on the Italian university system and on examining its contribution to the green and sustainable transition. UGREENS will make three major contributions. First, the project will examine the extent to which ‘green’ knowledge has been integrated into Italian universities’ teaching offerings, thus providing longitudinal evidence of universities’ contributions to the development of green skills and the diffusion of green-friendly attitudes among students. Second, based on an integrated dataset of green publications and patents, UGREENS will examine how the research focus of Italian universities on green-related topics has evolved and affected teaching activities. Finally, UGREENS will investigate the impact of Italian universities’ green education and research on local economic industrial activities. From the policy perspective, the findings of the project will inform policy initiatives and instruments that can augment the contribution of universities to the greening of the economy and society.
